About RUGGYD Furniture
My name is Tommy, and I am a high school student in Fairfax VA. I am also president of the Sam Clemens Farm 4-H club that I helped start. I was inspired to start making furniture when I saw a small pallet table my 4-H leader had made. One bad sunburn and two weeks later, I had finished my first rustic pallet table. I mastered my skills by making many different pieces and varieties of furniture for family and friends.
All of my tables & shelves are handmade from recycled wood shipping pallets that were destined to become landfill. Instead, they became rustic one of a kind pieces of furniture. Each plank of pallet wood has unique natural grains, textures and patterns. When fitted together these planks of wood result in a truly distinct, uncommon and exclusive piece of furniture. No two pieces of furniture are exactly alike. If you appreciate furniture that has a positive effect on the environment and is distinct, rustic and one of a kind, then you'll appreciate RUGGYD tables, shelves and furniture.
First I get pallets from local businesses and schools, I then take them to my workshop and dismantle them. Then, depending on what type of pieces of furniture I make, I cut the pallet pieces to appropriate sizes and assemble the piece of furniture. I then sand and stain the furniture.
To see my furniture in person, visit my booth at the Eastern Market in Washington, DC on weekends.
